About
Lois D. Kinley, a Brooklyn, NY native and former co-owner of the well-known Zawadi Gift Shop (now closed), is a staple in the New York City artist community. The Zawadi Gift Shop was started in part, because Lois was designing and making jewelry and other accessories. Subsequently, she and other like-minded designers joined forces and opened Zawadi, the preeminent gift shop in Brooklyn for many years.
One day while visiting a friend’s boutique (Omadou at Tres Elegante), Lois noticed he had many odds-and-ends of material left over from his dressmaking. Having a flair for design and recognizing that “green living” helps our environment she asked him for the remnants. Lois just knew that she could turn someone else’s “trash to treasure,” and thus began the “Sweet Octavia” brand of accessories.
“Sweet Octavia” is named after Lois’ sweet mother and the matriarch of the family; Ucilla Octavia Ramos. It was she who gave Lois the inspiration early on to see the unique beauty in things around us that may otherwise go unnoticed.
Most of Lois’ fabulous creations are made from remnants given to her by fellow Brooklyn designers. She is able to take these virtual scraps of cloth and turn them into her many signature creations that her customers have come to call “wearable art.” Her outstanding shawl/scarf is a piece not to be missed! Lois’ other accessories include; ladies’ shoulder bags, clutches, purses, hats and wallets. Also, watch for the new and unique line of gloves by “Sweet Octavia.”
All items in the “Sweet Octavia” line are one-of-a-kind and cannot be found anywhere else. This is truly a unique line of accessories that must not be missed, so be sure to tell your friends to visit Sweet Octavia at www.sweet-octavia.com
